Large Indian Civet Found Dead in Pachthar District
A tragic wildlife incident occurred near the Kabeli River in Nepal’s Pachthar district, where a large Indian civet (Viverra zibetha) was found dead. Local reports suggest the cause was a vehicle collision.
The large Indian civet is a nocturnal mammal found in Nepal’s lowland forests, foothills, and mid-hill regions. It primarily inhabits dense forests, grasslands, and shrublands but is also seen near human settlements. This species plays a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance by controlling rodent populations and dispersing seeds.
Unfortunately, increasing road accidents pose a serious threat to wildlife. This incident highlights the urgent need for wildlife-friendly infrastructure and responsible driving in forested areas.

ठूलो इन्डियन सिभेट नेपालका तराई जंगल, पहाडका फेदी र मध्यम पहाडी क्षेत्रहरूमा पाइन्छ। यो मुख्य रूपमा घना जंगल, घाँसे मैदान, झाडीहरू तथा कहिलेकाहीँ मानव बस्ती नजिक पनि देखिन्छ। यो जीव पारिस्थितिक सन्तुलन कायम राख्न महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका खेल्छ, जसमा यसले कृन्तक नियन्त्रण गर्न र बीउ फैलाउन मद्दत गर्छ।
तर, बढ्दो सवारी दुर्घटनाका कारण वन्यजन्तुहरू गम्भीर खतरामा पर्दै गएका छन्। यस्तो घटना जोगाउन वन्यजन्तु-मैत्री पूर्वाधारको विकास र जंगल क्षेत्रहरूमा सावधानीपूर्वक सवारी चलाउनु आवश्यक छ।
